		*"He swaggered into the joint with the wizened air of* *"The Man Who Knew Too Much."* The kind of a guy who could size you up without so much as looking at ya', staking out his own place at the end of the bar, stand his ground and drink his drink - all the while dictating mental notes to himself with geometric logic on the futility, fragility and ultimate nobility of the human spirit. For this is what men like him do. What they must do. Men who call themselves - Cartoonists. And then he kicked me in the guts..."




*Bert's Cartoons appear in several local publications.* *Have you seen the one about...*


		*Bert Silva is that rare* *trifecta* of *Hemingway, Van Gogh* & *Mickey Spillane. He's that tall drink of still water that runs deep. A matador caught on the horns of his own dilemma. But his life-saving "ole'" is an instinctive reflex that turns tragedy into humor with a flick of his wrist; both in words and pictures*.




		*A former Disney artist, (He was doing the in-between animation sequences for* *Jiminy Cricket* before the paint was dry on Disneyland...) Bert has circumnavigated not only this hemisphere aboard his beloved "Tango," but the world of cartooning as well. Paying his dues along the way in the thankless ranks of Manhattan's magazine cartoon culture. But not before serving another rank in Korea. Even with his budding career interrupted by war, Burt had set a course for publishing.


	*Like many of his colleagues and mentors at* *UPA*, Bert grew restless of the doe-eyed, Bambi-esque stylings of Uncle Walt Disney's de riguer and found broader horizons cartooning for many of the "gentlemen's" magazines of the swingin' '60s & '70s. And like any pop-eyed sailor worth his salty segues, he had a gag in every port. Today the siren call of his muse has him upon the rocks of several different manuscripts at any given moment. Even now, the undertow of temptation pulls at him to turn his novel(s) into a graphic novel(s)!

	*"Tango," the* *nautical signal* *to "stand clear" is also "T" in the phonetical alphabet. "T" also stands for* *"Theo"* *the watchful brother of Vinny Van G. Bert also has a brother, supportive of his art that he credits for saving his life many times over.*

	*A master of the single-panel comic strip format, you can* *enjoy more of Bert's work* *right here at* *EMBARC.ORG, as well as in several other local publications; The Bay News and The Rogue Voice and you can also get an autographed copy of his newest book* "Butt Busters" at Coalesce on Main Street.**
