In the holiday hustle & beltway bustle it is all too easy to forget that the most ancient of Christmas stories
are rooted in Truth, despite centuries of debate over their facts. We can deny the facts. We cannot ignore the
truth. We have a local answer to the perennial question of a once young 8-year old Virginia O'Hanlon; "Is there a Santa Claus?" And the large-hearted, kindly
old man still wears a red coat! In the Church's calendar of Feast Days, Saint Nicholas still retains his throne as the Patron Saint of Children. |

In these dark days while our country remains at war, with so many of
our sons & daughters
serving in harm's way, it is especially poignant for this author to find an incarnation of Father Christmas & Uncle Sam all rolled into one. Marine Corp.
1st. Seargent James L. Pickens served in uniform for 22 years. He has been stationed as far away as Germany, Japan, Viet Nam, and the Midway Islands before stateside posts with the VA Hospital brought him back safely to his native soil.
For the past 12 years he has called Morro Bay home, but he has never left the roll call of Duty. Whether delivering personal care products for cancer patients or coordinating care packages for
our soldiers overseas, this Seargent of Arms of the
American Legion can always be found with the sleeves of his uniform rolled up.If you would like to join Jim's Honor Guard in
any capacity, he can be reached at (805) 772-8394 or (805) 704-2111. His e-mail: JIMBO8912000@YAHOO.COM -- Sir Edmund Dantes |
